Project Spotlight: Roofing Project For St. Jude Dream Home
Garcia Roofing is a proud supporter of the New Orleans St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway, a fundraiser that benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 2012 and 2013, we partnered up with one of our leading material vendors, Advanced Building Products, to construct the roofs of the Dream Homes.
Advance Building Products provided the architectural shingles & roofing accessories. To ensure the best quality for the winner of the home, Garcia Roofing installed the Tru Def Duration shingle made by Owens corning. We chose this type of roofing shingle because it has a superior nailing strip compared to most other shingles. We carefully hand-nailed the shingles down, as we always do with asphalt shingle applications.
But not all the roof was asphalt. In order to give the home a unique look, we added a metal roof at the front of the home. We fabricated this metal using our own machines from our shop in Baton Rouge. The metal roof is a standing seam snap lock panel, and was installed by our metal experts.
About St. Jude:
Since opening 50 years ago, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has changed the way the world treats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
No family ever pays St. Jude for the care their child receives and, for every child treated here, thousands more have been saved worldwide through St. Jude discoveries.
The hospital has played a pivotal role in pushing U.S. pediatric cancer survival rates from 20 to 80 percent overall, and is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated
Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted to children. It is also a leader in the research and treatment of blood disorders and infectious diseases in children.
St. Jude was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas, who believed that no child should die in the dawn of life.
